Episode 146: More celeb nuptials , plus Hannah's Kensington Palace wedding!
Hannah: Can you believe it's September?
Hayley: Oh, don't. Honestly.
Hannah: be happy
Hayley: Oh, yeah.
Hannah: you're, like, getting closer to these kids coming out
Hayley: That's so true. Also, it's my anniversary this month in a couple of days.
Hannah: yeah, it is.
Hayley: airs,
Hannah: Congrats.
Hayley: this airs, it's my anniversary.
Hannah: 1st
Hayley: 3rd, 3rd.
Hannah: was your anniversary? Oh,
Hayley: Th- it'll be Thursday the 3rd, yeah. Thank you.
Hannah: Hayley and
Hayley: Thank you.
Hannah: years?
Hayley: Four, yeah.
Hannah: What is four
Hayley: Flowers apparently. Yeah, I was like, "Well, hey."
Hannah: that, like, the modern day one
Hayley: I think that's the s- I don't know.
Hayley: I really don't know. I get really confused with this. The, I b- I have a tea towel. The tea towel told me it was flowers, okay?
Hannah: Oh yeah, of course. Let me have a look.
Hayley: But you look, you look it up
Hannah: gift. I don't even re- oh, it's silk and
Hayley: Perfect, we're going away for a night.
Hannah: theme is household appliances
Hayley: God.
Hannah: a
Hannah: moder- modern one and a traditional one, isn't there?
Hayley: where did I get flowers from? My tea towel's wrong
Hannah: Your tea towel is really wrong because I think when it was my two-year anniversary, we
Hayley: That was
Hannah: was something weird and mine was co- the-- it's
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: no, but then I've just typed it in again, and it says fruit and flowers.
Hayley: Wow
Hannah: gift for a fourth wedding anniversary is fruit and flowers or linen and silk in the UK. Ah, traditional UK.
Hayley: uh, this is where it gets
Hannah: linen and silk. represents the strength, durability, and comfort of a shared home. Silk symbolizes elegance, smoothness, and the delicate intertwined connection of marriage.
Hayley: cringe
Hannah: Fruit and flowers is an older traditional note representing a relationship that has taken root and is now blossoming.
Hannah: Well, it's definitely blossoming 'cause they got three kids. One for every year
Hayley: Oh my God, literally.
Hannah: Oh,
Hayley: Oh, look at us now.
Hannah: Look at us now. Shall we get started?
Hayley: do it.
Hannah: Hi, I'm Hannah.
Hayley: and I'm Hayley
Hannah: And we are your wedding planning experts
Hayley: Here to spill the tea on the inside of wedding planning and everything that goes with it
Hannah: Expect our honest opinions, the real juice on what happens on a wedding day,
Hayley: With a few tips thrown in between.
Hannah: and also just a chat between friends
Hayley: And of course, make sure you hit that subscribe button.
Hannah: And let's
Hayley: let's get you wed. Woo!
Hannah: Woo
Hayley: Ah,
Hannah: Martin's just
Hayley: week is in. I can't do it with an audience. I'm so glad R- so glad Rich
Hannah: He's watching the
Hayley: is not here.
Hannah: live. have you been? Have you had a good week?
Hayley: It's been good. It's been busy. Um, so
Hannah: She's
Hayley: f-
Hannah: busy
Hayley: always busy, sort of. No. Busy doing nothing, no, joking. I, uh, act- I had a wedding this weekend, just gone. So that was nice. It was very, um ... It was, it was very on-trend with the old, like, black and white, you know? Like, they had all, like, the black kind of, like, napkins. So we, um, and
Hannah: You've done a few black and white
Hayley: Yeah, it's been... Yeah, I did one at the very beginning of the year actually
Hannah: was one just recent- you know that one, uh,
Hayley: Oh, um, I did one, I did, I did one at the hotel in Ascot. It's not-- But that wasn't black and white. That was like dark green and white.
Hannah: thinking another
Hayley: I don't know.
Hannah: many weddings
Hayley: up doing white flowers and then often they do go for the little black aesthetic.
Hayley: I mean, it's been very like... It's, it's very 2026, isn't it?
Hannah: Yeah. Very, very. Yeah
Hayley: Um, but no, it was, it was lovely. Um, so we did-- I think my favorite part of the ceremony, they had like a big mirror. You know the mirror where they do like a welcome sign and people take photos in it. I did this massive like arrangement in front of the
Hannah: yeah. Nice.
Hayley: all hydrangeas,
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: gyp, uh, phalaenopsis orchids, which lovely, um, and white roses which we flexed. So you-- when you reflex all the petals, you know, it's a classic. But yeah. And it just, it just, you know, simple but it looks like effective. It's lovely. Yeah. Efficient. Efficient? It wasn't efficient.
Hayley: I was like a snail.
Hannah: bridesmaids in
Hayley: Yes.
Hannah: Oh,
Hayley: Bridesmaids in black satin dresses. Bride obviously in white. So they, uh, bride had a... The bouquet was very similar to what I had actually for my wedding, but it was, it was like kind of like a waterfall, um, style with the orchids hanging down and the, the flex roses and then like gyp as like the kind of base.
Hayley: So it was quite... No, no foliage or anything like that. Quite simple, but not-- she didn't want it too big. And then the bridesmaids all had, uh, literally a white flex rose, a big-headed one with a ribbon, white ribbon tied on it and like a little
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: and stuff. So yeah, real sort of like simple, but
Hannah: Ah,
Hayley: yeah, it looked nice.
Hannah: And were they long tables, round tables?
Hayley: round tables. They had, yeah, bud vases of flex white roses. We did black candlestick holders
Hannah: Oh,
Hayley: then sadly
Hannah: or white tapers? Yeah,
Hayley: in the black holder. But yeah, I think I said before they changed their-- the venue had changed their stipulation on real flame so
Hannah: annoying
Hayley: now it was all, it was all, um, artificial. But I have to say, um,
Hannah: They
Hayley: the, the ones I did looked nice and they were remote control ones, so it's so easy 'cause I set it all out.
Hayley: I just press on and they all go on, but they flicker. They flicker like a real candle. Yeah.
Hannah: to be fair, you can get some proper
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: But I do think if you're gonna have the LED, you have to hire them from someone. Don't go and buy it 'cause they're so expensive to buy
Hayley: Yeah, they are a lot of money.
Hannah: just buy the cheap shit
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: or
Hayley: Yeah, exactly, and they look awful, yeah. So no, these were, these were very nice ones actually, to be fair, and I, um, th- they were like real wax as well, with like the li- you know, so they look...
Hannah: I know what you mean
Hayley: And I thought, you know, it's an investment someone else has, you know, I get them and someone else will have them or whatever, so
Hannah: I do think you can do, especially this time of year when it doesn't really get dark in dinner, I actually don't like tapers because they, they go down so
Hayley: They do,
Hannah: because the-- you've got a bree- If you've got a... Right, it's
Hayley: Yeah. See, this is a good point to make though, because I don't think people realize that even when it claims on the f- the, their packet are eight hours, it's not. They never are
Hannah: Tapers go down really quick. But if you've got a slight breeze coming in, if you're in like a barn with like a slight draft or like a marquee's the worst. The ones in the draft go down and within like 20
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: around the room and you've got some that are
Hayley: Little stubby little
Hannah: Yeah, and then the other side of the room are like really still
Hayley: Yeah. What's happening?
Hannah: actually don't tend to, to light them until it gets to like dusk. So I do think if you aren't allowed... But then sometimes venues are really strict on it. If they're not too strict, but they let you just have them out for the decor and you just don't light them, you can ask your venue.
Hannah: But I've done that a few times. Some venues are like, "No, you can't even have them out," because then if somebody does
Hayley: Like them then, yeah
Hannah: and just put them out and it's just more of a decor thing. And then when it, it-- 'cause it's light still anyway, nobody really notices. It just looks nice.
Hayley: Yeah, so true.
Hannah: So
Hayley: Yeah, that's a good idea. Oh,
Hannah: then you need... But you ain't getting no ambiance at this time of
Hayley: No, it's too light. Yeah
Hannah: They-- But I do-- But they do look nice when it then goes dusky
Hayley: And then it's, yeah
Hannah: you're then in a different room from your wedding breakfast, then doesn't matter.
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: So
Hayley: Yeah, so luckily as well, this was a different room to the wedding, uh, to the ceremony,
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: was nice 'cause it was- we could just start setting up and stuff. But, um, yeah, it was, you know, it was, it was, it was nice. It was quite a s- not...
Hannah: b- it was a slog though, weren't it, for you? Although I
Hayley: Yeah. Oh my gosh, yeah.
Hannah: it Saturday,
Hayley: Yeah, yeah. It was cool. A lot... I don't think it really...
Hayley: Saturday. No, sorry, it was Sunday.
Hannah: Oh, as
Hannah: in yesterday?
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: before? Yeah. Oh, okay
Hayley: Yeah, yeah, Sunday, sorry. So it was, um, can't keep... Um, it's 'cause it's bank holiday weekend, people. I'm sorry, I'm so confused.
Hannah: day is of
Hayley: the days have gone.
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: Sunday, but the weather yesterday wasn't too bad because it was... it didn't rain until later on in the day.
Hayley: So, but actually 'cause it
Hannah: yesterday.
Hayley: it was all inside, so like a hotel sort of thing. So, and it was like they had all the curtains kind of half drawn and stuff. So where, where we'd put the candles out in the, in the wedding breakfast, it was like, it would've looked nice, I think, regardless of the time of day 'cause it was a bit darker in there sort of.
Hayley: See what I mean?
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: Um, but yeah, no, I'm quieting down now. Um, I've got two weddings left, that's in October, and that's me d- that's pretty much all the work I've got. I've got a few bits and pieces obviously. We're always keeping up with like paperwork or whatever. But it's, um, I'm sort of winding down now for my, me old maternity.
Hannah: September's we- like we
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: and that's sort of venue
Hayley: Sometimes it's real busy, isn't it?
Hannah: well, I haven't
Hayley: Or do you not... Oh, okay.
Hannah: now.
Hayley: Yeah, true, true
Hannah: we're the same. October is-- our busiest months this year were May and October,
Hayley: Wow
Hannah: first month of season and our last month of
Hayley: Bizarre, isn't it? Yeah.
Hannah: yeah, the re- I mean, June, July was busy, but still not as busy as May and Octo- as in if you're talking quantity of
Hayley: how many weddings you've got on that month, yeah
Hannah: Yeah. And then, yeah, same that August. No, actually August as well. Yeah, it
Hayley: Oh, yeah, I was gonna say you were quite, you seem busy. But, um,
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: yeah, so that's, that's pretty much me in a nutshell this week. But I'm going away for my anniversary at the weekend, so I'm looking forward to that. We're having a couple of nights away without our little girls. No child.
Hannah: that aren't inside you.
Hayley: Oh my God. They need to stay in.
Hayley: Yeah. God, I'm like a f- f- oh, God, yeah, anyway.
Hannah: She is big, guys, I will
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: see her last week.
Hayley: my gosh.
Hannah: does look like she's
Hayley: safe to say... Well, I keep getting people coming up to me in the shops and they'll be like, "Oh, how long, how you, how long you got left?" And I'm like, "Yeah, three months."
Hannah: Yeah. Yeah.
Hayley: no, two months.
Hannah: know, I know they're only-- I know they're gonna bring them early, but technically
Hayley: So if I went full term , I would have, what are we now?
Hayley: September, October, November. I would have three months left.
Hannah: You'd
Hayley: I'd have three months
Hannah: Three and a bit because if they came naturally and they potentially, like... Do you know what I mean? Like, you've technically, you're only, like,
Hayley: Yeah. Oh,
Hannah: of the
Hayley: yeah. And it's mad, but then you think there's two in there, so it's
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: like... But still, it's like, honestly, I keep looking at myself in the mirror, I'm like, "I look like a freak."
Hannah: are as big as when, nearly as big as when you had
Hayley: Oh, 100%, 100%.
Hannah: yeah.
Hayley: But anyway, so basically, my week has been expanding at a rapid rate and,
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: wedding-ing.
Hannah: There you go.
Hayley: Um, how's yours been?
Hayley: I know you had a wedding, didn't you?
Hannah: Yeah. So yeah, another busy week. Um, we, uh, we had a wedding on Saturday and, um, we also-- I had like a whole afternoon with my couple for October.
Hannah: We just did like so many meetings. We did like meeting with the stationer, meeting with the florist. We did their wedding plan meeting, so I went through all
Hayley: Blimey.
Hannah: I was like full on on their
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: so, um, bank holiday weekend and then, um, when we go back Tuesday, I'm gonna then-- I can then get that out to all the suppliers.
Hannah: But I've got all the information pretty much done for everybody. I've just gotta now send it out so, um, 'cause they'll then be getting married in six weeks, so it gives us plenty of time to work on that and get all the supplier questions in and all the final bits and
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: but we're on a good roll for that one, which is good.
Hayley: Nice
Hannah: had a wedding on Saturday. Um, yeah, it was really nice. We were at Kensington Palace, um,
Hayley: lovely
Hannah: Um, yeah, it's lovely, but we absolutely love going
Hayley: I was gonna say, isn't that one of your, like, favorite venues to work at? Yeah.
Hannah: I really love the team there. They're a
Hayley: That's good. Yeah
Hannah: there's a lot of restrictions. There's a lot of logistics.
Hannah: Obviously, like Kate and Will are over the wall, like,
Hayley: Yeah. You can't jump over the wall. Yeah
Hannah: No jumping over walls. Um, and obviously, yeah, it's like a highly... And it's also a visitor attraction,
Hayley: Oh, okay. Yeah.
Hannah: you have to let visitors in till a certain time
Hayley: Yep
Hannah: The Orangery is their restaurant where you go, you know, if you go to Kensington Palace to look around, that's where you go for lunch, you know.
Hayley: Oh.
Hannah: um, you've gotta wait until that's
Hayley: Like over, done
Hannah: cleared out. You know, Saturday's busy. Um, bank holiday, you know, lots of tourists in London. So so but no, it went-- I just really...
Hannah: These guys were the nicest people. Um, so they stayed at, um, I never know. I think it's the Jemeraiah it's called. Carlton Tower. Jemera,
Hayley: I know what you mean.
Hannah: it, but it's a lovely hotel
Hayley: Jumeirah? Is it Jumeirah?
Hannah: like
Hayley: I don't... I've,
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: Lovely hotel
Hannah: weird because it's literally like round the park.
Hannah: So you're one side of the park at Kensington, that hotel's the other side of the park. But to get to it, the drive is a freaking mare 'cause driving
Hayley: Oh, yes
Hannah: And, um, tubeing it is a nightmare 'cause you basically have to go in and out again. Um,
Hayley: Oh, I see.
Hannah: so yeah.
Hannah: it was a bit of a, bit of a mare.
Hayley: Bur mesh
Hannah: yeah. But no, it was fine. So but I just, yeah, so I went to see them at the hotel. So you can't get-- We as suppliers cannot set up... Well, it depends. Depends what day you book. Depends how much money you got. But we had it, we were at, had access from three o'clock. So but guests were
Hayley: Okay.
Hannah: at 4:30.
Hayley: Oh my God.
Hannah: was where
Hayley: No.
Hannah: kind of started, right?
Hayley: Did you do the full plan on this or is this
Hannah: this is on the day
Hayley: on the day management? Okay.
Hannah: for them
Hannah: in the last few weeks. So they, um, really, really lovely couple, and these were the ones who, I don't know if I've really mentioned this, but they basically, initially, when they booked me, they were getting married at the town hall
Hannah: And then all the guests were coming to Kensington.
Hannah: So they would've been arriving late. They would've been arriving till like 5:30, so it would've been a much longer setup
Hannah: time. Then when I spoke to them for their final meeting that we do a few weeks before, um, they were like, we're not sure what to do about the ceremony. I'm in a nar in it." And I was like, "Why?
Hannah: Like, what are you concerned about?" Everything she listed that she was worried about the town hall is exactly how the town hall works. Like, she was like, "Oh, I don't really understand, like, when I'm gonna meet my registrar." I was like, "You don't."
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: worried, like I've been hearing that, you know, when you go in there's like other weddings happening at the time."
Hannah: Yes, there
Hayley: Right
Hannah: that there's gonna be like other brides about, other guests about." Yes, there is. It is literally like being... And it's that-- Look, look, a lot of people are happy to go to these town halls, and I think they're great, and they can offer you a really like, you know, a great service.
Hannah: They're a lovely building. But yes, on a busy Saturday in August, bank holiday
Hayley: Yeah, that's like a peak, peak day, isn't it?
Hannah: if you're going on like a Tuesday in May, it's probably not as
Hannah: bad. But you, you are gonna go in and you are gonna-- it is gonna be like, "Okay, if you're here for this wedding, you need to stand in this area. If you're here for this wedding, you need to stand in this area."
Hannah: But like, it is just like that. Every time I've
Hannah: been
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: it is heaving in there. And you know, people are getting called through and that, and I explained to them like how I've seen a town hall work and, you know, yeah, there is the board and it's like at this time this person's in and this time this-- But
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: that is not what I want.
Hayley: Oh,
Hannah: a nice ceremony." I was like, "If you're the kind of people that aren't that bothered about the ceremony, you're a bit like, 'We just wanna kinda get it done, and then we're more excited about the
Hayley: About the party, yeah.
Hannah: works great. If
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: ceremony, it's not
Hayley: It's not for you, yeah
Hannah: I cannot drag..."
Hannah: Like there, it was an Indian wedding. "I
Hayley: Oh, okay
Hannah: my family to something like that. They're gonna be like, 'What the hell is this?'"
Hayley: Yeah, true
Hannah: um, they'd already had like their Indian celebration, but yeah, this was like she wanted the white wedding. um, so yeah. So they decided to cut that, which meant that guests were gonna then be arriving to Kensington earlier.
Hannah: So me, the venue, and the caterer had a lot of conversations about it and how we're gonna make it work. Now, the other kind of regulation at Kensington is if you go over 90 guests, you have to have a cover along the ter- So basically there's like a lovely terrace outside, but it's open. There's no
Hayley: Oh, okay. Yeah
Hannah: the orangery, and it's just one long building, right? So there's nowhere else to go. You've got one building.
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: we've got an hour and a half to set that
Hayley: Oh, God.
Hannah: can't then have guests in wet weather just come
Hayley: Coming in, yeah
Hannah: fully set up in an hour and a half, right? So, and also, there's, there's not huge amounts of space in there. So if you've got tables under 90 guests, you're kind of okay. Over 90 guests, you ain't fitting your
Hayley: No. No way.
Hannah: guests
Hannah: in there for a drinks, standard drinks reception. So you have to have a cover on the terrace, which in Central London at somewhere like that with a massively quick turnaround, you're not getting cheap.
Hayley: No
Hannah: So they were kinda trying to do this on a budget and a re-- because they only decided three weeks before that they weren't gonna do the town hall. They were like, "Well, we can't now afford to go and fork out thousands of pounds for this cover." They were at 70 guests, so Kensington were a bit like, "You're gonna be okay."
Hannah: But they then decided to go for-- If
Hayley: no. I feel like this is like just getting more and more stressful
Hannah: If they had like your standard rounds or two long tables, they would've been fine. We could have half the room as tables, half the room as standard drinks reception. But they were insistent on having this-- It was almost like, it was like an oval sh- It was like an o- It was basically two long tables, but with then like...
Hannah: If you're watching on YouTube, you'll be able to see me explain. It was like this. So you got like the
Hayley: Oh, yeah.
Hannah: So it
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: kind of shape. I don't know what, what is that? Like a f- is that shape called?
Hayley: yeah, I don't know. It's, uh, uh, yeah. Uh, it's like in a...
Hannah: L- it reminds me of the buttons on my website. It's a, basically a
Hayley: Yeah, with round ends.
Hannah: But
Hayley: sausage.
Hannah: Yeah. Yeah. But only guests all round the outside, no guests in the center. So obviously it has to be really long
Hannah: because to fit everybody, 70
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: Whereas with two long tables, it'd be a lot shorter 'cause you'd have both
Hayley: Yeah. Yeah
Hannah: It would be so much shorter. I think we were, like, 10 lengths of table. And also because both ends are fire exits at Kensington, you have to start two meters away from the arch,
Hannah: where you then go through to, like, there's, like, a little cloakroom mini area, then, then the doors. So
Hayley: I see.
Hannah: like that.
Hannah: So you had to start further in,
Hayley: Oh
Hannah: the space down the end a lot, a lot smaller
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: So
Hayley: Oh, no
Hannah: we were kind of like, is it too much of a worry? We've had dry weather for f- we hadn't seen... I can't remember the last time I saw a splattering of rain.
Hayley: No.
Hannah: So let's risk it
Hayley: Oh my gods, yeah. Oh no,
Hannah: And then
Hayley: so Saturday
Hannah: on the day. Obviously, it had been saying all week potential rain, potential
Hayley: But it's been doing that and then not raining, hasn't it? So you
Hannah: So I
Hayley: you cannot trust it
Hannah: You cannot trust it. You cannot trust it. So on the day, I get there at 2:30. Everyone's kinda... It's got-- I l- I love places like that. Everyone's just there at the gate waiting.
Hannah: Security's there, like, "You
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: in, you ain't..." We're all
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: are all
Hayley: Let us in.
Hannah: with our bags and our
Hayley: Come on
Hannah: me and Sophie and Holly were doing, like, trips to my car 'cause they had basically decided to drop everything off to me a few days before, and then I would then drive it into London
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: "We don't have to, wanna have to take everything to the hotel and then you pick it up," whatever.
Hannah: Which actually in the end, that worked out a lot better. So, um, we had-- we were going and getting all the stuff. So from the point of me standing-- So the car park's literally at the top of the drive from the orangery, right? Like, a five-minute walk. We come down with a load of stuff. I spoke to the caterer.
Hannah: I was like, "Oh, it's lovely and sunny. We're
Hayley: Oh my God
Hannah: reckon we go with the dry weather plan." By the time I'd walked back up to my car and got the, the last load of stuff and got back, it was pouring with rain,
Hayley: Oh no. I
Hannah: "Oh,
Hayley: was gonna say it was, like, torrential on Saturday
Hannah: it just, it was
Hayley: here anyway
Hannah: on and off, on and off all morning.
Hannah: It just did know, not know what it was doing. So I was like, "You know what?" So the guests were due to arrive at half 4, and the other thing that she had decided she wanted to do is because she wasn't having a town hall wedding anymore, she still wanted to do her aisle walk.
Hayley: Right
Hannah: She was arriving in horse and carriage.
Hannah: We were gonna get all the guests lined up, and then she would do-- And the bridesmaids would walk in. We're having a violinist outside. Bridesmaids would enter. Bride would enter. And then we were gonna go, um, they were gonna do a little first dance on the terrace, go into cake cutting, and then drink reception would happen outside.
Hannah: They wouldn't sit down till 6:30, which would give us from 3:00 till 6:30 to completely get the setup done.
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: So that's essentially what we did in the end. Um, but we just had to really play it by ear. So we had to keep the cake inside. We couldn't set it out on the
Hayley: Oh, yeah, just in case. Oh, God
Hannah: So in the end, we literally-- She got the horse and
Hayley: So
Hannah: arrived.
Hannah: As she stepped out the horse and carriage, it started spitting. The horse and carriage was also really late. They basically
Hayley: Oh.
Hannah: to the wrong gate at Kensington, and they were like, "No." They were sending me tracking of where the horse and carriage I was like, "Where the hell is this horse and
Hayley: Where are they going?
Hannah: the wrong
Hayley: What the hell?
Hannah: park. Wrong
Hayley: Wrong end.
Hannah: So it'd gone to the wrong
Hayley: Oh my God
Hannah: Security had made them go all the way around. They, they're like, "We can't let you in." It's just so strict places like that. So it had to go all the way around, so they were really delayed. So she was then kicking herself 'cause she was like, "If we'd have come on time, we would've got the...
Hannah: Like, we'd have been fine." Started spitting as she come in, and she literally did the aisle walk, and it was spitting. soon as she got up, they were doing their little first dancing. On to the cake. It was like, "Go, go, go, go, go" with the cake. We whip out,
Hayley: Okay.
Hannah: the cake. The couple are standing there like, "What do we do next?"
Hannah: And I'm like, "Call them." And they just turn around, and I'm like... And they just go straight, and they're like, "Oh, great." And then they go straight into their cake cutting.
Hayley: my gosh
Hannah: we whip the cake straight out 'cause the rain is just
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: and
Hayley: G- get all that rain, man
Hannah: the guests just suddenly start running for...
Hannah: So we, they, the, we had like parasols on the, you know, like you've got little tables and
Hayley: Yeah, yeah
Hannah: had 20 clear umbrellas. The couple had bought 20 umbrellas. And but people were taking like one umbrella to themselves. There was loads of people without umbrellas and...
Hayley: Oh, that's annoying.
Hannah: umbrellas is enough, one between two.
Hayley: Yeah, yeah
Hannah: but yeah, so were just kinda hovering under the parasols and stuff. But we weren't-- So I got the couple straight in for first look of the room, but we weren't quite ready. There was like things that we still quite, weren't quite ready on.
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: after that, we did the first look. We were like, "Look, we're just, we can start getting people in."
Hannah: But no one wanted to go inside. So we were like, "Oh, you can start going in." But everyone was outside. Like, everyone was saying they were cold, and we were like, "Well, you can go in." And then as soon as a few people then
Hayley: Then they all kind of went, "Yeah."
Hannah: everyone then
Hayley: What was the, um, decor like? What did they have? Like, did it have flowers or
Hannah: yeah, so the color scheme was, uh, they described it as, is it cherry lemonade? Is that the, what
Hayley: Yeah. Yeah, okay. Yeah.
Hannah: and then dark burgundy, which
Hayley: Yes
Hannah: like, "This is weird." But it actually
Hayley: Really looks really nice. Yeah, I keep seeing this popping up
Hannah: Yeah, and then they had like the single stem r- the really dark burgundy
Hayley: Ye-- oh, yeah. I love an orchid. Big fan. Yeah.
Hannah: bud vases
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: And then what they did-- So, and the linen was lemon yellow, napkins were lemon yellow. It looked really nice together, the
Hayley: Yeah. Oh, I bet it did
Hannah: but the thing is, as soon... I'm so glad we did that first look 'cause otherwise-- 'cause as soon as people went in, they just sat down, put coats on chairs.
Hannah: You
Hayley: Yeah. You can't g-
Hannah: what it
Hayley: yeah,
Hannah: But then we got to do my favorite bit, go to the palace. So if
Hayley: Oh
Hannah: me on Instagram, you'd have seen my little video in the palace. The palace is so freaking nice. The staircase in there is the, I swear, uh, it's the best staircase we've got in the
Hayley: Is it?
Hannah: just putting it out there.
Hayley: Oh, nice. Yeah, that's true. Yes, yes, that is true, you do. So for you it was, like, perfect.
Hannah: But yeah,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: of flowed quite... Then the bride did get a bit upset, bless her. W- after like, before we went over to the palace, she was just like, I think because of the weather and the horse and carriage being late,
Hayley: Yeah, got to her
Hannah: a bit, and she was just so worried that people were having a good time.
Hannah: And m- me, the mum, and the maid of honor were just stood in the toilet with her like just talking it out like, "Everyone's having a great time."
Hayley: Yeah. Oh, bless her
Hannah: but it was quite like-- So guests arrived at half four, and they only went till half 10. Um, they did, um, so they sat down at about 6:30 for dinner, did speeches and stuff.
Hannah: They did some like games. They did like a musical bingo thing, and the, and the bride and groom MC'd it themselves, which was quite
Hayley: That's jokes
Hannah: Um, yeah, it was really nice. Another cool thing, feature that I thought was really nice was all around the table they had what you call like a photo runner. So they basically printed out like loads of six by four photos, which you can just do on Freeprints. Um, I think you get, is it 20 Freeprints
Hayley: Yeah, I think so. I'm pretty sure you can, yeah
Hannah: cheap anyway. Um, and then, um, so basically for every guest, they basically wrote on the packs, right, right, these go in these kind of area of the table. And we just laid them out, and it was almost like made a runner of photos all round.
Hannah: But then when that guest sat down, the photos in front of them would've been photos of them and like people they knew.
Hayley: Oh, that's really
Hannah: Yeah. So it, it was really nice. Yeah,
Hayley: I like
Hannah: around the
Hayley: that.
Hannah: Um,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: so we did that, and then the bud vases then went on top of this runner, um, of, of
Hayley: see. Yeah.
Hannah: Yeah, it was
Hannah: really
Hayley: really cool. Actually, the wedding I just done, they had, um... I noticed they had this, like, on e- on each table someone had a captain band, like an armband. So they were doing games and stuff, I think. 'Cause it wasn't a big wedding. They only had five rounds and then they'd hop table.
Hayley: Like, it's... I don't know how many that would be. What, like 60 people r- roughly?
Hannah: Yeah, yeah
Hayley: so it wasn't like huge, but it was, um... And they had, like, games and they'd... Uh, they did have a lot of kids there, I think, 'cause there was loads of, like, um, y-
Hannah: Kids
Hannah: activity packs
Hayley: packs. Yeah. But they were, like, done really, like,
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: They were on trend with their...
Hayley: You know what I mean?
Hannah: the
Hayley: done it with, yes, like a teddy, but it'd been done with, like, yeah, things like that. But... So, and they were doing, I don't know. I, I'm not sure what it was, but it was like a peg game. They had, like, these little pegs, and it was like... I d- I don't... I should have read it and found out what it was, but I've not done a wedding yet where they've actually done, had games, like, ready to go and stuff.
Hannah: we've done a few. Yeah, especially if they don't-- So they didn't have, like, an evening reception, so they didn't have, like, a DJ or anything. They just had, like, m- their own playlist on and whatever. Um, but yeah, no, it was really nice. Like I say, the weather just fucked us
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: such
Hayley: wasn't... Mm, yeah, here it was terrible on Saturday, but
Hannah: had to do that whole photo runner,
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: out where all the photos were going, plus
Hayley: Oh my God
Hannah: plus they did a personalized letter for every guest, so we had to get all those out.
Hayley: Oh my God. Oh
Hannah: we had from 3:00... Obviously, the whole table set up, they-- I mean, they're fast, but still, you need a good, an
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: went, we were an hour, probably half an hour in before we could even start doing anything. So
Hayley: Oh my God.
Hannah: it was a
Hayley: How many of you were there? Three of you? Yeah
Hannah: Yeah, but, and obviously you've got to focus on getting the, you know, the, with the c- the couple arriving and
Hannah: things like that
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: yeah. But
Hayley: Wow
Hannah: time. I think everyone enjoyed themselves. So yeah,
Hayley: Oh, that's good. It all ended up fine in the end. I bet.
Hannah: It always does, don't it? Always, you
Hayley: It always does. It always works out in the end, and you're just left a shivering mess.
Hannah: a point where she was like, "Can people go in?" And I was like, "We're not quite ready. I'm really s- like, we need to
Hannah: keep people out
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: think it was cold. I can't believe people were moaning that they were cold. It was tw- still 20 degrees.
Hayley: Yeah, it was Maggie. Yeah
Hannah: on Saturday. Yeah. And the orangery was so warm. I was like, "Why people wanna go
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: I
Hayley: don't know.
Hannah: know."
Hayley: We've been so used to like 30 degrees now, people are like, "Ooh, 20 degrees, cold."
Hannah: This, yeah. That, I think you're
Hayley: Yeah, I, yeah, probably is
Hannah: There we go
Hayley: Cool. So this week we are just gonna go through a few bits we've seen online. What's,
Hannah: bits.
Hayley: for us for the wedding world.
Hannah: has been happening?
Hayley: Uh, so Emily Atack got married this week. I really like her.
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: I feel like she's now... 'Cause you know Rival- Have you watched Rivals?
Hannah: I
Hayley: Oh my God, you have to watch it.
Hannah: I didn't th- I, uh, I
Hayley: Did you not like it? Oh,
Hannah: it.
Hayley: my God.
Hannah: and I've seen bits on Gogglebox and
Hayley: Oh, I love it, but I feel like that whole aesthetic from Rivals, she's kinda carrying through to her own life a little bit. Because I know, like, obviously, with, like, the dress, she had, like, kind of, like, shoulder pads, right? So
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: '80s, I would say. And that is...
Hannah: get married
Hayley: See, y- yes, they did, couple of weeks ago
Hannah: because then they got married again at a church, which is a legal... Well, I suppose it depends
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: legally get married in the church, so I don't really understand why they did that.
Hayley: Yeah, that is bizarre.
Hannah: do that if it's either
Hayley: Normally
Hannah: wedding or you're getting married abroad.
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: yeah, I didn't, didn't really understand that
Hayley: it must have only been like two weeks ago or something. They said, oh, 'cause I know she put on Instagram like they'd just got married at the town hall and like, "Can't wait to do it again."
Hannah: No. We're wrong. Th- we must be thinking of someone else. So this was their first wedding, then in the caption she put, "I can't believe we get to do that all again in a
Hayley: Oh,
Hannah: this
Hayley: so this
Hannah: wedding,
Hayley: one
Hannah: Then they've got another abroad wedding in September. Yes. So this was their town
Hayley: Town Hall.
Hannah: and I'm doing that with the,
Hayley: Town Hall. I know you little rabbits.
Hannah: and actually looking at the pictures, it looked like a full-on wedding. I
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: any reception pictures or anything they did afterwards, so we don't know how
Hayley: No
Hannah: But looking at that confetti shot when they come out the church, looks like there was a lot of guests there.
Hayley: Yes. It's quite big for a,
Hannah: For a
Hayley: for a town hall, weren't it?
Hannah: in quotes. You know. The first-- The legal part. The
Hayley: The legal bits. The legal bits
Hannah: But no, I loved her dress. I wasn't keen on the shoulder pads. Not a shoulder pads girl. But I love pure white. I always-- I, I still call it the Meghan Markle dress. Meghan Markle with the
Hayley: Oh, the white satin. Yeah
Hannah: I went for. I didn't want... At every dress I looked at that had the slightest bit of detail. They had lace,
Hayley: Just didn't fancy it
Hannah: pearls, anything. Didn't like it. But I love the look of having a pure white dress with then a detailed veil, which is what I did. I
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: veil, cathedral-length veil. And I love that, and it's exactly what she's done, and I just think it looks
Hayley: You loved it? Yeah
Hannah: It just looks... Yeah, it's just classic. I love the neckline. Again, that was my-- I had the same neckline in my dress. Um, I love full s- I love full-length sleeve dresses as well, which I
Hayley: I do like a, yeah, I do
Hannah: a
Hayley: a sleeved dress
Hannah: Yeah, I think they look so nice. Um,
Hayley: she looks stunning. I, I have to say,
Hannah: really did
Hayley: I, actually quite like the shoulder pads, but I, I think it suits her frame, like her sh-
Hannah: T-- yeah, 'cause she
Hayley: figure. But, but I know what you mean. They're, they're quite a state- it's quite a statement sort of thing, isn't it? I think you've got...
Hannah: is
Hayley: a shoulder pad is a certain choi- is definitely a choice, like
Hannah: Yeah. Yeah, I
Hayley: But,
Hannah: it suits her.
Hayley: yeah. Oh my God, yes. Cosmos.
Hannah: they are,
Hayley: Cosmos.
Hannah: Yeah, and the
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: black,
Hayley: So you got, then you got cosmos. That, that's all she's got in there, and then her sweet peas. Uh, she's got a bit of, um, she's got a bit of what most people call dill. You know, the stuff...
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: parsley, but it's...
Hayley: It
Hannah: yep.
Hayley: an actual name.
Hannah: Yeah, I loved it.
Hayley: But yeah, she's got the little chocolate cosmos and they actually do smell like chocolate. Yeah, they're beautiful, and they're like dark burgundy, velvety looking
Hannah: know that. Oh, stunning
Hayley: and they smell like chocolate. Yeah. They're literally called chocolate cosmos. And I like it. It's very, um... J- I bet that bouquet genuinely was really hard to make 'cause it lo- it looks like it's just been thrown together, right?
Hayley: But that takes skill to get it to look like that.
Hannah: style. Yeah,
Hayley: And also, this, the cosmos sometimes don't have long st- I bet that was a...
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: I don't know. But yeah.
Hannah: 'cause I could imagine they snap off and
Hannah: stuff quite
Hayley: they're just not the longest-stemmed flowers when you get them sometimes,
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: have... I, it looks to me like they've got them from, like, a grower.
Hayley: They don't look like they've come from... Just that's my personal opinion. But yeah, they are really pretty and
Hannah: stunning. They had the little clap, the old '80s, '90s kind of vibe car as well. Yeah, going on. But yeah, I'd love to see a bit more. The only thing I've seen from the reception, 'cause all the press are talking about, don't know why, is they had a McDonald's McFlurry
Hayley: Oh my God, what a vibe
Hannah: I think, They're, they're, they're branding it, the press are branding it like this is a thing from McDonald's.
Hannah: If anyone actually wants this, what I would think it is, is a supplier that just basically has started a van,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: 'cause McFlurry is basically like a Mr. Whippy, isn't it,
Hannah: vibe. And then they've just named it, branded it as... But, but then I don't know if you'd be allowed to just brand it
Hayley: I think you'd get copyright,
Hannah: I don't know if the press is gonna get these guys in trouble. I don't know. But
Hayley: Yeah, who knows?
Hannah: don't know how they've managed to kinda do that, 'cause it's not a thing that McDonald's, like, hire out.
Hayley: No
Hannah: the press are talking like, "Ooh, you can hire your van from McDonald's."
Hannah: No, that's not a thing. I would just think it is an ice cream van that they've then asked to have like, you know, temporary signage where it looks like it's a McFlurry, and they've probably bought the cups to make it in a similar vibe,
Hayley: would say so, yeah. Yeah
Hannah: it, like, the Mc whatever their surname is, you know. Um, yeah, and they were
Hayley: That's quite cool.
Hannah: McFlurries. But that's the only thing I've actually seen about the reception. Other than that,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: some more soon, and I'm sure we'll also see an abroad wedding from them too.
Hayley: Uh, yeah, 'cause for, uh, like you say, for like a first go of it, like the first, you know, you- it's quite a big wedding.
Hannah: Well, yeah, it looks
Hayley: That's what you would be, like a...
Hannah: a very
Hayley: That's your main...
Hannah: aft- reception.
Hayley: maybe.
Hannah: it. Yeah, we don't know. so we also saw this week, uh, Molly Smith and Tom Clare. So this
Hayley: Oh, yes
Hannah: This was now their abroad wedding in Majorca. They got married at the town hall recently.
Hannah: Um, and yeah, what did we think?
Hayley: Well, I thought, so the flowers on that, uh, d- what would you call it? Like, a pavilion. It's not a pavilion. Do you know what I mean? What do you call that? It's like a dome.
Hannah: Yeah, like a
Hayley: Yeah. Where was it they got married?
Hannah: Majorca.
Hayley: Okay. I was gonna say, it looks kinda Greek, but I've... Yeah.
Hannah: Yeah,
Hayley: But
Hannah: doesn't
Hayley: do you know what I mean? Like, it looks like the
Hannah: like the dome at Foyle Park, which they call The
Hayley: Yes, it is.
Hayley: Yeah. It's like a dome, but
Hannah: With the little stairs, yeah.
Hayley: the flowers, oh, I thought they were... It's not even the flowers what they look like, but the actual design
Hannah: yeah
Hayley: it's, the way it wraps around and at the top it kind of comes off into, like, this little, like, bit,
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: I think you'd have to put it, l- look it up, people, basically.
Hayley: But it's... I honestly thought that was spectacular
Hannah: See, I think you're coming in from a, from a florist head of looking at how that's been built. That was really hard to build. And I, and I think now you've said that I'm like, "Yeah, I understand what you're
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: a hard structure to make. It just reminds me of a snake And I just, I just don't think-- I'm just not a fan
Hayley: I could, yeah, I...
Hannah: white weddings.
Hayley: okay.
Hannah: But,
Hayley: I see what you're saying
Hannah: like this vibe because you had that vibe of the Jeep with the white roses
Hannah: and the pale
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: So maybe it's just your style,
Hannah: whereas
Hayley: I,
Hannah: a dark,
Hayley: yeah. Fair. I like quite light stuff. I just, to me, for me, uh, uh, from a florist's point of view, I appreciate the structure.
Hannah: Yeah,
Hayley: I d- I think that's a, that is a, yeah, that is... It's like a,
Hannah: Fair.
Hayley: like I can imagine them sitting with a florist and the florist has actually like designed that for them and I, that it's like a work of art.
Hayley: That's what I could say.
Hannah: standard where
Hayley: Gone up one side. That's what I liked about it. That is one hell of a statement.
Hannah: you are
Hayley: but also like in terms of... I don't think it would work though if you did it with any other flowers because you need to get that almost like clean shape. So they've used gyp.
Hannah: real or do you
Hayley: Yeah, I think that looks real to me.
Hannah: yeah
Hayley: gyp's pretty, gyp's pretty, um, holds up well out of water and st- yeah
Hannah: think as well, 'cause there's a lot of... Was there a lot of hydrangea down the
Hayley: Yes. Yeah.
Hannah: as
Hayley: Yeah. That's, that's...
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: would make me cry.
Hannah: yeah. But yeah,
Hayley: But
Hannah: don't know. I just think this whole, with the white carpet, and the white flowers, and the
Hayley: It's too white
Hannah: in white, I'm just...
Hannah: But I'm just not a white gal. You know? I don't like, you know, even... I'm literally sitting in front of a white wall. I don't like white walls in my house, you know. It's, uh, it's
Hayley: I know. I think it's, yeah, it's definitely kind of like a... I'll tell you what,
Hannah: isn't
Hayley: I'll tell you what I didn't like s- suit-wise for him, is his suit is, like, a white color, or it's, like, off-white, but then the lapels look yellow. Have you seen that?
Hannah: Yeah,
Hayley: I'm like, "Oh."
Hannah: They're more like a cream,
Hayley: Yeah, I don't know if I like... I just, I'm not sure if I like that
Hannah: Obviously, they had to very much probably PR their wedding 'cause they were doing the podcast, weren't
Hayley: Oh yeah, of course.
Hannah: over from Jamie and Sophie. They then moved on to do their, you know, newlyweds or whatever,
Hannah: whatever it
Hayley: Yeah,
Hannah: did like the announcement video where she pulled up his collar and it had the detail
Hayley: that. Yeah
Hannah: collar was a really nice little touch. Obviously, they've
Hayley: No, that was nice. Yeah
Hannah: I think it's a nice little touch to have. Um, she'd done a lot about, like, the wedding week on her Instagram and stuff as well, so she was mentioning that. Um,
Hayley: for content,
Hannah: yeah.
Hayley: this wedding
Hannah: of outfit? That was freaking lush. She had, like, this
Hayley: Oh
Hannah: thing going on and had all the pictures and that. I would think,
Hayley: Yes
Hannah: weddings like this is I just always think, "How much time did you have spent taking photos and videos?"
Hayley: know, like are you actually enjoying yourself, like genuinely, are you actually
Hannah: gonna sell this to a m- But then saying that, if they were selling it to a magazine, they wouldn't have put anything on Instagram.
Hannah: So maybe
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: they
Hayley: I don't know.
Hannah: a magazine. So
Hayley: I know they've done a lot of PR, haven't they?
Hannah: angel,
Hayley: Oh my God, she's absolutely beautiful. Yeah, she's so pretty. Yeah.
Hannah: so nice.
Hayley: Her dress, like, had almost like a... It had loads of sequins, diamantes on it, didn't it?
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: Yeah, it's not... It is, it is beautiful. She just looks stunning. But
Hannah: I was not a fan of the dress at all, I will say.
Hayley: Yeah. Do you know what it is to me? I like the, I...
Hannah: Hands
Hayley: Yeah, 'cause you like the, you like a nice, you like a nice plain white chic
Hannah: a little bit, I don't know, dare I say it, a little bit
Hayley: Tacky? Oh, okay. I went, "Tacky?"
Hannah: what I mean? Yeah, it's, yeah. Yeah. Do you know what I
Hayley: yeah, I know what you're saying. It- do you know what it reminds me of a little bit with the corset top, and then it goes into... It kind of reminds me of, like, remember Katie Price when she got married, and she had that little short corset, and it goes into a big poof at the bottom.
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: I've, yeah... I've just noticed as well, sorry, going back to the flowers, they had lilies, loads of lilies. Dub- double-headed lilies as well. That is bold. That is bold because they stink. Well, they're not bad smell. Some people hate the smell, although I say that you can get unscented ones, so prob- they've probably got a budget.
Hayley: They've probably got the unscented ones. But these are the double-headed ones, so they look... It's t- really hard to explain. Basically, you know how a, normally a lily opens, you have, like, the little stamen things, and they stain everything?
Hannah: Yep.
Hayley: have that. They don't have any of that. So it's like a, they call it a rose lily.
Hayley: So the lily opens, and it has loads of petals in the inside
Hannah: Yeah,
Hayley: has no stamen.
Hannah: Oh, I see
Hayley: just, I just, I've noticed a few people using lilies this year
Hannah: Yeah, I think she likes that 'cause she had like that whole, um,
Hayley: Yes. Yeah.
Hannah: first wedding as well. So
Hayley: That's true, yeah
Hannah: I must say as well, I loved the chairs in the ceremony,
Hayley: okay, yeah.
Hannah: that metal kind of wiry
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: those. Um, then afterwards it looked like they went very much...
Hannah: They had like the, the, the, uh, like the teak wood,
Hayley: Yes, it was a different vibe, wasn't it? Very
Hannah: it was still very white.
Hayley: it all
Hannah: still very-- Yeah, completely white tablecloths, white flowers, all
Hayley: All white.
Hannah: teak wood rattan chairs, which is very
Hayley: Okay
Hannah: with a white wedding. Although you can get the white Louis Rattan, but the, the teak wood's quite a pale wood.
Hannah: Um, but that's quite a po- that's very popular at the minute, is where you have the teak wood with all the white as
Hannah: well.
Hayley: I see
Hannah: there's been another celebrity wedding like that as well. So yeah, and then they did the-- Obviously it's an abroad wedding, so they did a, they did quite-- You,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: they did loads of events on the lead up.
Hannah: They did the day after event, which she then had a full sequin outfit on. Um, and I don't know, it's all just been in the press about that Casey guy who was on Love Island. I didn't watch that series, so I don't
Hayley: Oh. Yeah
Hannah: was in those like budgie smugglers and sh- like he literally turned up in just those, and then they had the police called on them 'cause they were all jumping into the p- off, off the port in Majorca.
Hannah: They were jumping into the
Hayley: Oh my gosh. No.
Hannah: so the
Hayley: Oh, no
Hannah: It, it made out in the press like, "Oh my God, the
Hannah: police were called to the wedding." I don't think it was a big deal. They probably just turned up and said,
Hayley: Yeah,
Hannah: water."
Hayley: But, you
Hannah: obviously
Hayley: press gets hold of it and they're like,
Hannah: up on. Yeah.
Hayley: yeah
Hannah: Yeah, it looked nice. Again, I'm sure we'll see more from it, but yeah, that was... I think we've probably got like different opinions on that one, 'cause like we say, you, you like that kind of vibe. I don't.
Hayley: I just think, you know, what it is with flowers, like I just appreciate the, uh... I like it, and it looks clean. I don't know.
Hannah: Yeah
Hayley: like, I've, I like lots of different things, so
Hannah: You, you had a white carpet at your wedding,
Hayley: I did.
Hannah: your
Hayley: I like the vi- survive. The
Hannah: the
Hayley: survive.
Hannah: white
Hayley: Love that
Hannah: I appreciate what you're saying with the designer. I hadn't really
Hayley: Yeah. That's all I would say about that. The way that is... I wanna- I actually can't see whether it's, it's probably tagged on there who the florist was, but I really...
Hayley: Is it not?
Hannah: No,
Hayley: 'Cause I was like, "Oh, who's done it? I wanna know."
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: it someone that I've
Hannah: Yeah, come on, tag people. We wanna
Hayley: Yeah, we wanna know. We wanna know
Hannah: Um, well, there was also a news article this week where, um,
Hannah: I don't know anything about cricket, but there's a cricket player, Peter Malcзеsz, I don't know how you
Hannah: say it.
Hayley: Marush, Marush?
Hannah: is basically, I just had to read this out 'cause I thought this, I wanted to get your opinion on this. That he is due to play at the Lord's on the 6th of September. Um, but he is also due to get married in North Wales less than, like, less than 24 hours, so
Hannah: I assume the day
Hayley: oh
Hannah: they're basically, um, trying to secure a helicopter ride so he can a- a- 'cause basically the day after the wedding, he would either have to leave at 5:00 AM or he's gotta get a helicopter there to get there in
Hayley: I'm sorry but did he not think about this when they booked their dates?
Hannah: I don't know if you know the, the, the
Hayley: Oh, I see
Hannah: And I just wanted to get your view on what you would think, because you're either leaving at 5:00 AM or I don't know what time you'd have to leave by helicopter, but say it was even midday, would you be impressed with your husband leaving the day after the wedding?
Hayley: Mm, uh, do you know what would worry me? Is that if he had a game like that coming up, that he wouldn't even be enjoying himself on the wedding day. That's the bit that would get me. It wouldn't be the fact that he's le- I wouldn't care what time he was leaving the next day, but I would think, "Well, are you actually in it?"
Hannah: be on his mind.
Hayley: have a drink," or, "I can't do this 'cause I've gotta get..." You
Hannah: Can't
Hayley: would
Hannah: up too
Hayley: like taint it a bit
Hannah: the game starts at 11:00 AM, so I would think even
Hayley: that is early.
Hannah: you probably gotta leave by 8:00.
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: So if you get, if you drive in five, that's ridiculous.
Hayley: Mm.
Hannah: I, yeah, I don't think I'd
Hannah: be impressed.
Hannah: But
Hayley: I wouldn't be happy, I won't lie, but I suppose if you...
Hannah: career is paying for the wedding,
Hayley: True.
Hannah: can you fucking
Hayley: No, do you know what they should've done? Done a town hall wedding and then gone and had a separate, a broad one.
Hannah: Or just have a wedding out of season. I'm assuming there's a
Hayley: That's what
Hannah: for
Hayley: I mean. Come on. Like, you'd know, surely you'd know, like, Lords is a certain time of year. So that seems like a
Hannah: Yeah, true. Yeah, why would you risk it?
Hayley: bit of a...
Hannah: when there's no Lords.
Hayley: I don't know. I wouldn't be...
Hannah: season is, like, summer.
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: So
Hayley: I wouldn't be happy anyway, I'm not gonna lie. I was... Yeah, that would be my... Yeah
Hannah: would also not want to get up to get into that
Hayley: Absolutely not. You wouldn't, you wouldn't get me in a helicopter no matter how much you paid me. Oh my God
Hannah: then imagine if you're the day after the wedding without your husband, I also think that's a bit weird.
Hayley: Yeah, like saying thanks to your guests and stuff. Uh, cheers. He- he's gone, but, you
Hannah: Yeah, it,
Hayley: guys.
Hannah: off.
Hayley: You
Hannah: The only
Hayley: I am
Hannah: had that happen, the groom left the bride the day after the wedding. Have I never--
Hayley: What do you mean, like left hair, like...
Hannah: not ta- ever spoke about this on the
Hayley: No
Hannah: This was years ago, so I feel like I can probably talk
Hayley: Oh my God. Wait, hang, like left there, like left there.
Hannah: yeah, so the
Hayley: No
Hannah: I went to see the bride and groom, as you always do,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: and I was like, "Oh, where's the groom?"
Hannah: to the bride. And she was like, "Oh, he's had to go to his mum's." Um, the dog was really
Hayley: Oh my God
Hannah: had g- made up this excuse about the dog ate his homework or something to go back to his mum's and then basically messaged her and was like, "Yeah, I, I should've done this before the wedding, but I want-- I, you know, I didn't wanna see you go without, you
Hayley: Oh
Hannah: like,
Hayley: my God
Hannah: and it was already paid for and everything.
Hannah: But yeah, literally split up with
Hayley: I am, I'm shots. Oh
Hannah: because there was someone else at the venue that I worked at that knew them
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: of a friend
Hayley: So you got the tea.
Hannah: yeah,
Hayley: Oh, I like that. "
Hannah: By
Hayley: love to have all that goss, but
Hannah: 'Cause I was like, "That was really weird." She seemed a bit off.
Hannah: Obviously,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: that he had, like, gone off the d- the morning after the... I'd never had that happen before. It's al-
Hayley: No.
Hannah: together the
Hayley: Yeah. So you were like, "This is strange."
Hannah: So
Hayley: That is bizarre
Hannah: So it's either 'cause they're splitting up or if you're-- 'cause they're going to the cricket, you
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: There you go
Hayley: Oh, dear. Shall we go onto the listeners questions and messages?
Hannah: Let's
Hayley: Um, so we've had one in, uh, it's quite a long one, so bear with me while I read it out.
Hannah: Go for it
Hayley: so it says, "Hi, Hannah and Hayley. I've been loving listening to your pod while planning my wedding, which I had last week in Italy."
Hannah: lovely.
Hayley: Oh, that's very nice. "We had the most amazing three-day event, however, on our actual wedding day, it rained like an actual storm." Crying face.
Hannah: to show, it don't matter what country you get married in, it can
Hayley: you can't, uh, you can't secure the weather
Hannah: You can't
Hayley: Um, "And was somehow still horrifically boiling at 35 degrees," oh, that's awful.
Hannah: Jesus
Hayley: "we had to use a plan B, which was a marquee on the grounds overlooking the lake.
Hannah: Nice
Hayley: when all 70 of us arrived after the church ceremony, by boat, I will add to give you the gist of what our wedding was supposed to be,"
Hannah: Oh
Hayley: a shame. Um, "our wedding planner still didn't have everything ready and had our guests waiting on the jetty, not allowing them to the venue. She was so all over the place and not in control at all, which sent me absolutely spiraling and into panic, as she just didn't seem to have a handle on things.
Hayley: And the whole day I couldn't enjoy, as the flow was all over the place, and I didn't really know what was going on. We paid 7,000 pounds for the planning service, plus another 3,000 pounds for two additional on the day staff, their expenses, and also for our planner to attend our food tasting. Uh, long story short, do you have any ad- advice on how to, A, get over the fact it rained and my day didn't go as I wanted.
Hayley: B, get some money back from our planners. It doesn't really change our day, but could put towards our honeymoon. Thank you for all your help and the fab pod. If you wanna shorten this, understand clearly I have a lot of thoughts about this." No, that's okay, girl. It's okay
Hannah: first,
Hayley: Yeah. Congrats on your wedding. But
Hannah: oh, it's, um-
Hayley: I w- thought this was an interesting one because obviously this is to do with the planner, right?
Hayley: So o- obviously we're only getting one side of the story, right? So we don't know what's gone on. Like
Hannah: I would say point A, you've just gotta g- it happened, you still had an amazing time I'm sure. other than that bit that-- I mean, you've only spoke about the one bit where obviously you arrived from the ceremony, but before you could get into that venue, that bit of the day was a bit of a
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: got into the marquee, you haven't mentioned, did you have an amazing time? You were over three days. Well, I think you did s- oh, you had the most
Hayley: Amazing three days,
Hannah: So I think you've just gotta get over that that happened. It
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: day as well. It was annoying,
Hayley: annoying. It's part of life. Yeah, you can't, like we say, can't control the weather.
Hannah: about the
Hannah: rain r- anymore. It's a funny story. You know, there was literally at the end of my ceremony, the thunder boomed and then it started pouring with rain. Like, you know, it was a funny
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: I think you've just gotta move on. And I do think we've said this before on the podcast, uh, it, it's that whole like time is a healer. But
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: in a few months you probably
Hayley: Yeah, it just feels a bit raw at the moment, I suppose. It's literally so fresh, but
Hannah: Exactly. And you do overthink. There was a lot of things I thought about afterwards that you are a bit like, "Oh, what about that?" But now I
Hayley: Yeah, se- yeah, exactly. Exactly
Hannah: at your photos and your video and all those kind of things. Point B, I-- my first instinct is I don't... But I'm trying to put this in like a-- 'cause I've gotta kinda have to defend the planner here. I'm just, uh, putting it out there.
Hayley: Just saying
Hannah: I just don't like-- Not that I don't like, but you just straight away said we want money back. Now, I don't know, obviously this is just one story, so please don't take this as like me being offensive. But I d- I'm, I, I don't know what you've done since the wedding. I think before you hop to that conclusion of we deserve money back, you need to have a full conversation, right? And I don't know,
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: you have done that, and please update us if you have, and then I'll give you my view. But I think it needs to be a sit down because this planner, first up, that was n- that's not a lot of money for the service they've given you.
Hannah: I don't know if this is a British planner or an Italian
Hayley: Yeah, so this is the other thing,
Hannah: is the other thing. If it's an Italian planner, maybe actually it's an all right fee. But for a Br- for a British planner to go over to Italy and do a three-day wedding, that is not a lot of money to plan the whole three-day wedding go back and forth to tastings and site visits and all that stuff.
Hannah: That's not a lot of
Hannah: money. So I wonder if there was a little bit of inexperience there. I see a lot of planners who start, that are new in the industry and think, "Oh my God, I wanna do destination wedding. This
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: the world." And I actually saw a planner the other day say that, and I was like, "You ain't traveling the world, love" because you gotta work when you
Hayley: Yeah, exactly
Hannah: and, you know, there's not-- Y- you're not just there to be traveling.
Hannah: Yes, you can add a holiday onto it, but before the wedding, all you're gonna have in your head is the wedding, and after the wedding, you're gonna be fucking knackered from doing the
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: having a
Hayley: it's not like a jolly, is it? Yeah. Yeah
Hannah: why I've never done destination wedding, and it makes no sense to me for a British planner to go and do a
Hayley: Yeah. I've said this so many times. Yeah. So true
Hannah: in Italy, I'd have an Italian wedding planner, 100%. That's on the ground, that they know what the hell's going on. The language is a huge thing. Unless they live in England, but they can speak the language, great. Anyway, a lot of planners I know that do
Hayley: The, yeah, yeah
Hannah: it, don't. So, you know. Um, I would say, so that's another thing how I can't really comment because if they're an Italian planner, yes, they should probably have understood like the weather and things like that.
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: it was a British planner, maybe they didn't have full experiences on the day. They b- they-- maybe they weren't expecting it. Um, the other thing I would say is I actually used to freelance for another planner years ago when I started my business, and I did a couple of abroad weddings with this company and basically because they couldn't speak the language, every time they were trying to talk to suppliers, the supplier was basically like, "Dunno, I can't speak English," when they
Hayley: Oh my gosh. Yeah. That's frustrating
Hannah: is really frustrating. So I wonder if you need to sit down and have a full conversation, 'cause it might be that the planner is like, "Look, on the day,
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: a fucking
Hayley: There's probably a whole story as to why, yeah.
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: like just think, y- I was just thinking about the wedding you've just had, right?
Hannah: Yeah, that's what I was going about to say. Yeah
Hayley: Y- you know what I mean? Like, n- you- you've done it and w- you, the idea is that the bride and groom don't know what's gone on behind the scenes, right? So you're kind of like stressed.
Hayley: They, they could've been the same thing and they're just like trying their hardest to get you. You just don't know. So I think you're so right. Like sit down, have a conversation, find out what happened.
Hannah: it
Hayley: Tell them you're unhappy, but they might tell you why, and then you can actually then understand and then,
Hannah: Absolutely. I
Hayley: you know
Hannah: completely agree. 'Cause there's a lot, and I'd love to get a follow-up on this to see what was actually
Hannah: said. 'Cause if it is the planner's fault, yeah, it's the planner's fault. But also, we actually did an episode on this recently, didn't we? You should only be asking for money back if that, that conversation isn't handled well.
Hannah: If you then complai- if you then say... I wouldn't even complain, so I'd just be like, "Can we please hop on a call? 'Cause I really would love to have a conversation just to, just to clear my mind up on a few bits that happened on the day." Have that conversation. If you feel like you've come out that conversation, they've like, you know, the call's gone really shitty and they were just a little bit shitty, then complain, then ask for money back.
Hannah: But if you, the call goes really well and they're like, "We, you know, we're really sorry.
Hayley: Yeah, like they've,
Hannah: this
Hannah: shouldn't happen," then I don't... Yeah. Should you be getting money back? I don't necessarily think so. Um, but I... But you're so right, Hayley, right? So let's, let's strip, let's pull it back, right, to that wedding that I did on
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: was a really quick turnaround. We weren't fully expecting the rain, but it happened, and we had a plan B in place.
Hayley: Yep.
Hannah: it takes time, and I had a
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: say to the bride and groom, "You can't quite come in yet," but I had
Hayley: At the end of the day, you're not magic, right? You can't magic put things out. Like, things take time, and sadly when you have to ch- if the weather changes like that, that is out of your control as a- anybody. As a planner, whatever, that is not your... That's not your fault, and then you're just gonna do your best to kind of, like, catch up from there.
Hayley: But the thing is, I, I do think sometimes with weddings, like I've found, like, with couples, like, it, it's almost like they have these unrealistic expectations of what you can do. Like, for me, it's I get a lot of, um... Like, they want everything moving from their ceremony over to their wedding breakfast and stuff like that, but they want us to, like, almost do it like we're invisible,
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: just can't.
Hayley: So then you've got to wait. So you have to accept that we're gonna be there and s- you know, you can only do what you can do,
Hannah: Yeah,
Hayley: 'cause things take time and manpower. Like
Hannah: But my-- I think my questions would be is did you all, as the planning team and as the couple, have a plan B in place?
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: rain? Because it-- you should always discuss rain. Doesn't matter where you're getting
Hannah: married, there should always be a plan B. I would think about that. I would think about, you know, have you had a conversation? If you haven't, sit down, have a conversation, ask what happened. The other thing I would ask is, you know, you said here she was all over the place. So, yeah, it's a difficult one because, again, I would kinda ask, you know... I mean, everybody's human,
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: event manager, you should have a certain amount of experience to be able to hide that you're stressed.
Hannah: Like Saturday, I was stressed, right? But you
Hayley: You have to internally have...
Hannah: But there are things that happen. The mum kept coming up to me, and before we'd even done things would be like, "What's happening with this? What's happening with this?" And in the end, I had to be like, "Seriously, it's gonna be-- You need to trust me.
Hannah: It's gonna happen. Trust me. Let me do my job."
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: And she was like, "No, no, no, I'm really sorry, I'm really sorry." And afterwards she come up to me and apologized 'cause she kept stopping me, and I was bus-
Hayley: And you're trying... Yeah, yeah, yeah
Hannah: to get stuff done, and she kept stopping me. Because I try to make myself look like I'm not crazy busy, she thinks she can come up to me and think, "Oh, it's all right, she's not busy.
Hannah: I could go
Hayley: I'll just...
Hannah: Which is fine. You know what, mother of the bride? You're fine.
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: fine. But I had to say to her, "Please just let me crack on,"
Hayley: Let me do my thing.
Hannah: know when you're in your head like, "Oh my God, I need to get this done and this done, and I've got 30
Hayley: Yeah, and I just
Hannah: to do it." Um, yeah. I was a bit like... So maybe was it that point? Maybe if you said to the planner, "Look, you seemed really, like, out of control. You seemed really stressed." But had she had, uh, your mum's coming up to her asking her
Hayley: Yeah, you just don't know, do you? You just don't know
Hannah: to the couple, you should never look-- It doesn't matter how
Hayley: Yeah, you shouldn't let them know that it's not, it's out of control
Hannah: gotta let-- you have, as an event manager, you have to be a very good actress as well.
Hannah: That kinda comes with the territory. You have to just... And you have to be a blagger.
Hannah: You have to blag it. "Yeah, no, it's fine. We're just gonna leave you here for a little bit. We're just getting, like, things like all... Oh, I don't know. Well, the boat's about to pull up." You've gotta be able to blag things.
Hannah: And then in the background you're going, "Fuck's sake, who's...
Hayley: Yeah, you're like, "Quack, quack, quack, quack."
Hannah: here right now. Right now." Literally, like I had the same situation a couple of months ago. The bride's like, "Where's our taxi?" I was like, "Yeah, yeah, he's just here. He's coming, he's coming. Yeah, he's just, um... We're just gonna, like, get a couple more photos." And I'm going to the photographer like, "Spend some more photos, time on photos. We're
Hannah: just... There's a
Hayley: yeah.
Hannah: And I'm fucking ringing like, "Where the
Hayley: Where are you?
Hannah: is this taxi? Get
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: now. I don't care if you have to fucking magically make it appear, I don't care. He needs to be
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: I want to look outside the window and it is here." Like, do you know what I mean? Like, but
Hayley: And they don't know about that. Yeah, exactly. Exactly.
Hannah: like, boiling with stress
Hayley: course. Yeah.
Hannah: They didn't know that.
Hayley: But in- yeah.
Hannah: But
Hayley: that's a good point because...
Hannah: skills
Hayley: But I do feel
Hannah: job.
Hayley: that's the thing that I feel sorry for this bride about, is that she's felt, she felt the anxiety because the plan is obviously...
Hannah: just jump
Hayley: No.
Hannah: they, "I deserve a
Hayley: Yeah.
Hannah: you need to get the full story.
Hayley: Have a conversation. Yeah.
Hannah: They, maybe they
Hayley: out.
Hannah: of, yeah,
Hayley: We need some more, give us a bit more. We would love to hear a bit more about this
Hannah: need a conversation and stuff first, 'cause I
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: on them to just give you money back before...
Hannah: And also it's a bit like, what-- Yeah, I understand you, you wanna use it for your honeymoon, but then it kinda goes into territory where you're... As soon as you start complaining about things and it goes into a proper process, 'cause they might then say, "We're not gonna give you any mo- money back, you need to go to small claims court."
Hannah: I then just think it drags it up more, and you're less likely to be able
Hayley: So it makes it worse.
Hannah: back to the back of your mind, you know?
Hayley: Sometimes you just have to come to terms with something that wasn't...
Hannah: Yeah, it
Hayley: nothing, nothing is guaranteed to be perfect.
Hannah: a three-day event for seven grand
Hannah: for planning. I'm like, absolutely, like
Hayley: Yeah, that is, that is, yeah.
Hannah: I would say. And it just makes me
Hayley: Yeah, that's reasonable, isn't it?
Hannah: in Italy down the road,
Hayley: Well, this is the thing, but it says that they've paid for all their expenses, which I would presume would be flights.
Hannah: Yeah.
Hayley: Anyway
Hannah: for two additional staff on the day because that would be their flights, accommodation, and all that.
Hayley: Yeah
Hannah: That's why it would've been 3K. That's why I am heading towards a, this is a British planner who's gone out to do a destination wedding. But I wanna know more. That's my
Hayley: Send us some more
Hannah: That's all I can give you up to this point 'cause I don't know
Hayley: Yeah, give us
Hannah: I'm
Hayley: dates
Hannah: yeah, you-- I don't think you deserve money back at this point
